Convert PNG to JPG to shrink the file size

PNG is lossless, which makes it perfect for screenshots and flat graphics — but for photographs it produces files several times larger than they need to be. Converting a photo-style PNG to JPG can cut the size by 70–90% with no visible loss at high quality, which is why JPG is the better fit for email attachments, faster web pages, and upload forms with size caps.

JPG has no transparency, so the see-through background is filled with white. The file dropped from 1.26 MB to 176.0 KB, 86% smaller.

Transparency becomes a solid background

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels can't be carried over — they have to be painted onto a solid color. This converter fills them with white by default and lets you pick any other color, so a transparent logo comes out on a clean background instead of turning black. If you specifically need to keep transparency, stay with PNG or use our WebP to PNG converter instead.

Runs entirely in your browser

The PNG is decoded and re-encoded on your device — nothing is uploaded, so conversion is instant and private, with no server file-size limit. Need a different conversion? The image format converter handles HEIC, PNG, JPG, and WebP in any direction, and the HEIC to JPG converter targets iPhone photos specifically.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a PNG to JPG without losing quality?

Keep the quality slider high — at 90% or above, a JPG converted from a PNG photo looks essentially identical to the original while being much smaller. JPG is a lossy format, so it is not pixel-for-pixel identical the way PNG is, but at high quality the difference is invisible for photographs and most screenshots.

Why convert PNG to JPG instead of keeping the PNG?

PNG files, especially photos saved as PNG, are often several times larger than the equivalent JPG. Converting to JPG dramatically reduces the file size, which is useful for email attachments, faster-loading web pages, and forms that reject large uploads. For flat graphics and screenshots with sharp edges, PNG can still be the better choice.

What happens to a transparent PNG background when I convert to JPG?

JPG does not support transparency, so any transparent areas have to be filled with a solid color. This tool fills them with white by default, which matches most documents and web pages. If you need to keep transparency, convert to a format that supports it instead of JPG.

Is my image uploaded during conversion?

No. The PNG is decoded and re-encoded to JPG entirely in your browser using the canvas API, so the file never leaves your device, nothing is stored, and there is no upload wait or server file-size limit.

Does converting PNG to JPG reduce the resolution or dimensions?

No. The pixel dimensions stay exactly the same — a 3000×2000 PNG becomes a 3000×2000 JPG. Only the file size changes, because JPG compresses the image data more efficiently than PNG for photographic content.

Can I convert several PNG files to JPG?

Select one PNG for the full before/after preview, or select several at once (or paste them) and the tool converts each one and packages the JPGs into a single ZIP. Everything runs locally, so there is no queue and no upload either way.
