Why convert HEIC to PNG?

iPhones have shot HEIC by default since iOS 11 because it stores a good photo in about half the space of JPG. The catch is compatibility: Windows needs an extra codec, plenty of websites and upload forms reject the format, and older editors cannot open it at all. PNG solves the compatibility problem while staying lossless, so the converted file can be edited, layered, or re-saved without accumulating compression artifacts.

Lossless PNG is several times the size of the HEIC: 714.3 KB became 4.05 MB. Choose PNG when you will keep editing the image, and JPG or WebP when you only need to share it.

Lossless output, full resolution

This converter decodes the HEIC at its full pixel dimensions in your browser and writes every pixel to PNG without additional compression — a 4032×3024 iPhone photo becomes a 4032×3024 PNG. That makes it the right choice for images headed into a design tool, a document, or a pipeline where quality cannot be traded away. If you just need a universally readable photo and file size matters, use the HEIC to JPG converter instead.

PNG files are large — plan for it

Lossless always costs bytes, and a phone photo saved as PNG can be several megabytes. If you are hitting an upload limit, the image compressor can bring the PNG (or any other image) down to an exact size like 200 KB or 1 MB, and the image format converter handles HEIC, PNG, JPG, and WebP in every direction.

No upload, no codec, no signup

The HEIC decoder runs inside the page, so your photo is read locally and never transmitted — useful for personal photos and anything sensitive. There is no app to install, no Windows codec pack to buy, and no account. It works the same way on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert HEIC to PNG without installing anything?

Drop the .heic or .heif file onto the box above and the PNG appears on your device — no app, no codec pack, and no upload. The browser decodes the HEIC and re-encodes it as PNG locally, so the photo never leaves your computer or phone.

Why convert HEIC to PNG instead of JPG?

PNG is lossless, so nothing is thrown away when the photo is converted — you get every pixel the decoded HEIC contains, with no new compression artifacts. That makes PNG the better choice when the image will be edited, cropped, or composited, or when it contains graphics and text. For plain photo sharing, JPG is smaller and still looks identical.

Will the PNG be much larger than the HEIC?

Yes — and that is expected. HEIC is a highly compressed format, while PNG is lossless, so a PNG screenshot of an iPhone photo can be five to ten times larger. If size matters more than lossless editing, convert to JPG instead, or run the PNG through the image compressor to bring it to an exact size.

Does converting HEIC to PNG reduce image quality?

No additional quality is lost. The HEIC is decoded at full resolution and written to PNG without further compression, so the PNG is as close to the original as a PNG can be. It will never look worse than the source photo.

Does this work on Windows without the HEIC codec?

Yes. Windows cannot preview or open HEIC files without an extra codec, but this tool never asks the operating system to decode them — the browser does it. The same page works the same way on macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.

Is there a file size or count limit?

Files up to 25 MB are accepted, which covers iPhone photos including most ProRAW exports. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no server limit — only your device memory. Select several photos at once (or paste them) and the tool converts them all, offering the PNGs as a single ZIP.
